Loving Hearts - A constant connection; keeping it pure

Sheila Këhau O’Malley has made Hawai’i her home since 1972. She began her journey in massage in 1985, at the Honolulu School of Massage, where she became a licensed massage therapist. Towards the end of her training, Sheila and her classmates were signing up for a weeklong deep tissue workshop on Kauai. Although the others were very enthusiastic about this class, in her heart of hearts Sheila knew it wasn’t for her, because, something kept telling her she needed to connect with a magical woman named Aunty Margaret Machado, whom she had heard and read about and who taught Hawaiian Massage. So she called Aunty’s Lomilomi School, located on Hawai’i Island and in her western thinking expected to talk with Aunty’s secretary. To her surprise and delight Aunty answered and said, “Aloha this is Aunty Margaret, how may I help you?” Having just
finished her massage training in Honolulu, Sheila asked if she could skip Aunty’s beginning class and go directly into her advanced course, to which the reply was “Oh no, you must start from the
beginning”. Sheila soon began her Lomilomi training and once in Aunty’s presence, understood the importance of starting from the beginning. It was not just a matter of learning the moves, it was
much deeper, it was about learning the essence of Aunty’s work, understanding the spiritual connection. Aunty teaches that Lomilomi is “a loving touch and prayerful work”. Since that beginning class, Sheila has been immensely blessed to have an ongoing relationship with her Kumu, and has been able to travel the world sharing her Lomi with many individuals. With Aunty Margaret’s blessing, she started to teach in Honolulu in 1991. Sheila established her own
school, Ka Pä Lomi Ola in 1996, where she devotes most of her time teaching the traditional art of Lomilomi. She has found that sharing Lomilomi is her passion and is forever grateful to Aunty Margaret for
the positive change in her life that Lomilomi has created.
